Specialist in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections (ICSI)
Specialist in IVF and FertilityIntracytoplasmic sperm injection or ICSI is a process where a single active sperm is inserted inside a mature egg. When there is grave infertility in males or females this technique is used to conquer fertilization.
ICSI can also be the choice after a failed attempt of fertilization through IVF. This process provides a light of hope to the couple in cracking the code of pregnancy and to enjoy parenthood.
In the beginning, the female partner will be going through ovarian stimulation. The fertility medication will help her develop many mature eggs in a specific duration. Via vaginal ultrasound, these eggs will be released and kept in the embryology laboratory.
Through a separator, the potential semen will be drawn out of dead semen. This live semen is then injected inside the mature egg.
ICSI is considered absolutely necessary in the case of male factor infertility with an abnormal semen analysis. It is needed for males who have got abnormal semen analysis. Due to failure in IVF, most of the patients are opting for ICSI.
Reasons are fertilization failure with IVF, more sperm count, the success rate of fertility. Some patients directly opt for ICSI after consulting a doctor because it enhances the fertilization chances.
The embryo selected will be released through the cervix to the uterus. Other good eggs will be frozen if this attempt fails to succeed. In the Luteal phase, there will be 14 days to wait for a pregnancy test. Eventually, there will be a blood test.
Fertilization chances are 70-80% of all eggs injected which is the standard fertilization rate. 5 out of 4 cases are successful even after the weakness of the sperm. Hence, 8 out of 10 eggs will fertilize normally in the laboratory.
